PITTSBURGH, PA January 20, 2005 -- Tele-Tracking Technologies, Inc., a leading developer of healthcare workflow automation solutions, announces the general availability of bedboardmobile, the healthcare industrys first digital bed board for a mobile, hand-held, wireless device. With bedboardmobile, anyone from patient placement coordinators to nurse managers can see the status of the entire hospitals bed availability, bed status and in-patient bed demand with a wireless-enabled Palm or PocketPC device. Bedboardmobile has been implemented and field-proven at several client hospitals throughout the US.
Designed to leverage a hospitals existing 802.11 wireless infrastructure, bedboardmobile helps users make informed bed management decisions on an immediate basis with no need to make phone calls or search out an available computer terminal. "By giving patient placement nurses the ability to access the bed board at any time, we can decrease the wait time for each patient needing a bed, said Gene Nacey, Tele-Tracking Technologies Founder and CTO. This access to real time information in the palm of their hands will translate into less internal frustration between departments and more patient satisfaction with new admissions, Mr. Nacey added.
In 2001, Tele-Tracking created the healthcare industrys first digital bed board called the electronic bedboard (patent-pending), and is now complementing this functionality with a wireless PDA-based application to provide real-time access to critical bed management information
A mobile platform was the next logical step to improve patient flow. With the recently issued JCAHO Patient Flow Leadership Standard (LD3.15), hospital executives are looking for better ways to efficiently address patient throughput. With bedboardmobile, patient placement coordinators and nurse managers have the ability to make intelligent decisions with accurate information, literally, in the palm of their hands.
Inefficient patient flow is a systemic problem in the healthcare delivery continuum. From unavailable in-patient beds, to overcrowded emergency departments and backed up surgery suites, each area represents a potential bottleneck, as well as an area for improvement, said Anthony Sanzo, Tele-Tracking President and CEO. "For more than a decade, we have been driven by a mission to assist our clients in providing them with the industry's leading patient flow solutions. Our development of the electronic bedboard helped redefine the entire patient flow management process with technology, and indeed began a new era in patient placement, Mr. Sanzo continued.
